Getting Started
You will need to know a few sets of data for the calculator to work properly. Here they are:
  1. Look on the package of your steak and determine the pounds.
  2. Decide how you would like your steak cooked, such as rare or well done.

Imputing the Information
Now it’s time to enter the information into the steak calculator. You will see a drop-down box on the calculator that lists several options, such as 1/2, 3/4, 1, and so on up to 2 pounds. Click on the number that represents the pounds of your steak. Now look at the second drop-down box. This box lists how you would like your steak cooked, such as rare, medium, and well done. Click on one of these descriptions. Now click the “Calculate!” button.

Reading Your Report
The steak calculator will return results quickly to you. Here is an example of a report you might see for a 1/2-pound steak that you would like to come out rare:
  1. First side: 2 minutes
  2. Second side: 2 minutes
  3. Internal Temperature: 120°- 130°F

What this report tells you is that you should grill your steak 2 minutes on each side, and then you should take it off the grill once the internal temperature reaches about 130 degrees Fahrenheit. To read a steak’s temperature, simply purchase a meat or steak thermometer at your local home appliance and goods store. Using a thermometer is going to give you the most accurate reading so that you do not take the steak off the grill before it is safe to eat.
But what about a two-pound steak that you want to grill to a medium temperature? Input the information in the steak calculator, and this is what will return:
  1. First side: 10 minutes
  2. Second side: 8 minutes
  3. Internal Temperature: 140°-150°F

In just seconds you know exactly what you need to do to grill a great steak!

Calculator Versatility
One of the great strengths of using a steak calculator is that it allows you to customize orders quickly and efficiently if you are hosting a dinner party with guests who like their steaks different ways. You simply input the information and in seconds you have a plan for grilling that steak to perfection.
